At one point in our lives, we'd like to experiment. Especially with our outter appearance. We try out loads of make-up products to find the right one, and we also like to make changes with our hair. Things like chopping off long locks, or adding length with extensions are just a couple of examples. Changing your hair color is another way to make a radical change.
If you want change up your hair color, you have two options: Do it yourself, or go to the hairdressers. When you go to a salon to dye your hair, it will cost a lot more then buying dye at a drugstore and do it yourself. Now if you want a really drastic haircolor, like from black to blonde, I do recommend to go to your hairdresser. Making a huge change like this is pretty risky, and can go wrong easily. But for you people out there who are interested in dying your hair at home, take a look at these tips!
- To start off, you need to buy the right haircolor. Don't look at the haircolor from the models on the boxes, because it might not look the same if you have darker or lighter hair. Instead, look at the overview on the side of the boxes, where they'll show you what the color will look like on light, medium and dark hair.
- Buy enough hairdye. If you have really long hair, get two packs instead of just one. Most likely, one box would only be enough for medium hair. Also consider to get more boxes if your hair is very thick.
- Be prepared. Make sure to not wash your hair at the same day you're going to dye your hair. This is because the hair dye is really agressive, and your hair will need it's natural oils to protect itself. It's going to get a bit messy, so wear an old T-shirt, have a couple of old towels around you and be prepared with gloves. It's very important to read the instructions, so take your time to go through this. Also, check if you're allergic to the hair dye. The day before, do a patch test on the back of your neck, and see if you have any allergic reaction to this.
- Work in sections. If you want your haircolor to be even, work in sections. This is to make sure you've put an even layer of hair dye onto all of your hair. With not sectioning off your hair, you might miss some hair pieces, making the color very uneaven.
- Don't wash your hair out too early! This will affect your haircolor, making it appear different then from what you've expected.
